Role Summary
ProVeg is the first global NGO promoting alternative proteins such as plant-based foods and cultivated meat to be given approval for a representative office in China. ProVeg International is now recruiting Communications Manager ProVeg China, who is well-versed in communications across the spectrum, including traditional media and social media with an ability to plan and execute integrated communications activity in support of the organisation and campaigns. The role will suit an experienced, driven and media-hungry self-starter, who is able to multi-task, prioritise multiple work streams and manage and build relationships internally and externally in order to deliver wide and high-quality reach for our messaging. 
The role holder will work closely with the Managing Director, Asia, the Executive Director, China and international teams in the development, planning and implementing of key communication strategies to ensure the promotion of new and existing strategic programmes, raise awareness of the benefits of alternative proteins, improve the availability of them, and replace animal product consumption.

  • Reports To: Managing Director, Asia
  • Location of Position: Shanghai (preferred) or remotely in China
  • Hours: 20-40 hours per week 
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement key communication strategies and interventions, working with the Managing Director, Asia, the ProVeg China team and the international teams 
  • Through effective and targeted communication strategies, drive programs and campaigns that change behaviours of the public, institutions, retailers and other associated stakeholders.
  • Develop pitches, press releases, blogs, articles and other communication materials in Chinese and English as required. 
  • Organise press conferences
  • Bring in and grow relationships with media and digital influencers. 
  • Supervise and manage the social media accounts in Asia including WeChat, RED,  Instagram and more 
  • Ensure media and outward-facing communications and assets are proofed, on strategy aligned and effectively tailored to audiences in a positive, pragmatic and solution-focused manner
  • Coordinate press inquiries, interviews and local event logistics as required 
  • Develop knowledge of alternative proteins related issues and trends relevant to the role
  • Undertake any other reasonable related duties as directed by the Managing Director, Asia.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Strong experience in PR/communications role with expertise in writing captivating content for a variety of media and audiences, developing of communications plans, building media relations and finding the story  
  • Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification/accreditation (Journalism, Media, etc.), ideally in an English-speaking country
  • +3 years of relevant work experience
  • Track record of running successful online campaigns on both international social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and Chinese social media (WeChat, RED, BiliBili, etc.)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in Chinese and English, preferably bilingual knowledge
  • Ability to understand the elements of what makes a good story and be confident to sell into known and unknown journalists and outlets 
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively, and to balance competing demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A professional and positive outlook with the ability to adapt and bond with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Alignment with ProVeg's mission and philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate for ProVeg's vision globally
  • Outgoing personality with proven ability in representing an NGO to build productive relationships with media representatives and other stakeholders
  • A substantial media network and existing contacts to build upon (business media and lifestyle media), ideally within China. 
  • A professional media appearance
  • High level of flexibility to utilise ad hoc media opportunities and ability to pivot when required 
  • Trustworthy and accountable personality with a proactive work ethic
  • Creative and resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills
  • High willingness to learn and inquisitive nature
  • A team player
Preferred
  • Experience in the food sector
  • Understanding of and/or experience within the non-profit sector
  • Experience in environmental, food or sustainability sectors
