Role Summary

ProVeg is the first global NGO promoting alternative proteins such as plant-based foods and cultured meat to be approved for a representative office in China. 

The Program Manager, ProVeg China will work closely with the Managing Director, Asia, to initiate and deliver meaningful campaigns through thoughtful planning and budgeting, with the support of the international team. In addition, the role will include developing reports and governance processes.

  • Reports to: Managing Director Asia
  • Location: Shanghai (preferred) or remotely in China
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Salary: dependent on experience, 12 - 15.000 CNY per month
Responsibilities
  • Program & Campaign Development
    • Design and implement programs and campaigns to promote alternative protein innovations, ensuring they are pragmatic, solution-focused, and impactful
    • Work collaboratively with international ProVeg teams (communications, monitoring & evaluation, and learning) to amplify campaigns and assess impact
    • Identify strategic opportunities and white spaces to scale existing projects and create synergies between initiatives
  • Governance, Reporting & Compliance
    • Develop and manage annual goals, quarterly objectives, and key results (OKRs)
    • Support annual budget planning and contribute to management reports
  • Stakeholder & Partnership Development
    • Build and strengthen partnerships with universities, academic institutions, and advocacy groups to advance ProVeg’s mission  
    • Effectively engage with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and seniority levels
  • Other responsibilities
    • Provide additional support aligned with the scope and level of the role as needed
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in food science, nutrition, environmental studies, or a related field is preferred
    • 5+ years of relevant experience in advocacy, research program management, or NGO work in China
    • International work or study experience is a plus   
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Passion for food systems transformation, including environmental protection, public health, food safety, food security, and animal welfare 
    • Strong strategic thinking and program management skills, with the ability to manage change effectively
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in Mandarin Chinese (native level) and English
    • Proven ability to work with remote, global teams
    • Experience using Google Workspace, project management tools, and other digital productivity platforms
  • Others
    • PRC citizen or native Chinese speaker
