Marketing Communications Manager

Role Summary
ProVeg International is recruiting Marketing & Communications Manager in China. The Marketing & Communications Manager will be well-versed in communications across the spectrum, including traditional media and social media with an ability to plan and execute integrated communications activity in support of the organisation and campaigns. The role will suit an experienced, driven and media-hungry self-starter, who is able to multi-task, prioritise multiple work streams and manage and build relationships internally and externally in order to deliver wide and high-quality reach for our messaging. 

The role holder will work closely with the Executive Director, China, and international teams in the development, planning and implementing of key communication strategies to ensure the promotion of new and existing strategic programmes, raise awareness of the benefits of plant-based diets, improve the availability of plant-based foods, and reduce meat consumption.
Job Details
Position Title: Marketing Communications Manager
Contract: Part-time or Full-time (20-40h/week)
Reports To: Executive Director, China
Location of Position: Shanghai with ad-hoc travels to ProVeg, Berlin (as required)
  • Develop and implement key communication strategies and interventions, working with the Executive Director, China, the China team and the international communication team 
  • Through effective and targeted communication strategies, drive programmes and campaigns that change behaviours of the public, institutions, retailers and other associated stakeholders.
  • Develop pitches, press releases, blogs, articles and other communication materials as required 
  • Manage and build relationships with media and digital influencers
  • Ensure media and outward-facing communications and assets are proofed, on message and effectively tailored to audiences
  • Develop and design (with graphic designer support) assets for digital channels and campaign materials and events as required
  • Coordinate press inquiries, interviews and local event logistics as required 
  • Attend meetings and calls with the international communication team as required
  • Develop knowledge of plant-based related issues and trends relevant to the role
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Executive Director, China.
Required :

  • Strong experience in PR/communications role with expertise in writing captivating content for a variety of mediums and audiences, development of communications plans, building media relations and finding the story.  
  • Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification/accreditation (Journalism, Media, etc.)
  • +3 years of relevant work experience in mainland China
  • Being based out of Shanghai, and, where necessary, travel within China and occasionally to Europe.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in Chinese (Native) and English (Fluent).
  • Ability to understand the elements of what makes a good story and be confident to sell into known and unknown journalists and outlets 
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively, and to balance competing demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible approach with a high level of detail across workstreams with a hunger for success
  • A professional and positive outlook with the ability to adapt and bond with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Alignment with ProVeg's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate for ProVeg's vision globally.


  • Experience in the food industry 
  • Understanding and/or experience within the charity sector
  • Experience in environmental, food or animal welfare sectors
