Head of International Finance, US-Based

Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and committed Head of Finance to oversee all financial aspects of ProVeg International Incorporated (“PVI Inc.”) -- which serves both as ProVeg’s US office and our international financial headquarters -- and drive the global organization’s financial strategy and planning. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and assessing the organization’s finances and work closely together with the ProVeg US Executive Director, International President, as well as the Board. They will streamline, implement and optimize systems and procedures to ensure the needs of the organization are fully met.  The Head of Int. Finance is a reliable professional with broad knowledge of accounting, financial management and annual reporting, and ideally charity-specific principle. They are a strategic thinker who can make the best decisions in line with our organization’s vision, mission and values. The goal is to guide ProVeg International branch towards sustainability, growth and long-term success.

We are in the process of transferring international legal and financial management systems from Germany to the US, where the PVI Inc. headquarters are based. You will develop new, and build on existing, finance operational systems (with the support from pro bono and paid external expertise as needed) to accurately account for ProVeg’s global spending (including internal spending between ProVeg entities), invest and grow our reserves, and forecast for future years.

Location: Working from home, US-based. East Coast preferred.
Hours: 40h per week
Salary: $55,000 - 70,000 USD annually
  1. US finance operations: 
    • Manage and oversee US financial operations for profit, loss, and compliance. Includes budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and auditing.
    • Direct the day-to-day bookkeeping operations including oversight of accounts payable and receivable, maintain the general ledger
    • Lead on the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the US Executive Director, President, and the board
    • Prepare and present monthly (P&L and balance sheets) management reports, quarterly (variance reporting), and annual financial reports to the Executives and donors
    • Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with partners and donors
    • Ensure that all of the organization's financial practices are in line in statutory regulations and legislation, including IRS tax & reporting requirements
    • Remain up-to-date on best practices in nonprofit finance, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations, implement improvements as needed
    • Distribute and/or monitor Global Grant Program payments
    • Manage PVI Inc’s payroll, employee reimbursements, employee tax requirements
    • Ensure ProVeg International remains public support compliant and/or develop plan for compliance

  2. Global finance planning: 
    • Identify and address financial risks and opportunities.
    • Update and implement financial policies and procedures
    • Update and maintain the organization’s international finance IT system
    • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting
    • Lead global budgeting process between all ProVeg entities in conjunction with the US Executive Director ProVeg US, President, Vice President and the International Operations Manager;

  1. Growth strategy
    • Assist with high-level decisions on growth strategy and investment, providing due diligence as necessary.
    • Develop investment policy for both growth-oriented investments and mission-oriented investments
    • Manage investment portfolio and high-yield bank accounts
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required; graduate degree or CPA preferred
  • Proven experience with a minimum of three years of working in finance, ideally in the non-profit sector
  • Experience in United States nonprofit accounting (e.g. revenue recognition, public support testing, 990 reporting)
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, audits, and other United States regulatory requirements in the nonprofit financial field
  • Collaborative attitude, solution-focused, and supportive of international colleagues (particularly Country Directors, Heads and International Executive and Operations team)
  • IT skills, including Office, with advanced proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks
  • Self-starter personality with the ability to work independently and with limited supervision
  • Excellent communication skills in English; additional language skills preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced,  small yet rapidly growing nonprofit work environment
